I have read the Horizon Report and it’s very interesting. It was the most enjoyable 36 pages. Technology is amazing. I like the effort that has been put together between the New Media Consortium and the Educes learning Initiative experts to identify and describe emerging technologies likely to have an impact on teaching, learning, or creative expression within learning-focused organizations.
One of the most exciting trends pointed out in the Horizon 2009 report is the cloud computing which takes the old business model of utilities, such as Electricity and Gas, and applies it to computing and application resources. In this way it has the potential to enormously reduce cost and implementation time, while economies of scale mean that the expertise managing the systems is always better than enterprise class because it is delivered over the internet, it also offers the possibility of innovation through the richness of data and information services available.
